    Check-in details

    Arrive at the meeting point (Puerto Rico Bio Bay Tours llc, Las Croabas Blvd) 15 minutes early to find parking and check in. Late arrivals over 10 minutes may forfeit participation and payment. Use the provided Google Maps link for directions.

    Special requirements

    Participants 12 years and under must be in the same kayak with an adult. Participants 13–17 years old require an accompanying adult who completes a waiver for them. Maximum weight per person: 230 pounds; guests may be weighed at site if weight is questionable. Must speak and understand English or Spanish.

    Restrictions


    Pregnant women are not allowed. Guests with back, neck, shoulder problems, recent surgeries, severe asthma, epilepsy, heart conditions, dizziness, motion sickness, or severe allergic reactions to mosquitoes or sulfur from sargassum are not allowed. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs that impair safety is not permitted. Swimming is not permitted in Laguna Grande per Reglament 8013. No white lights are permitted within the bay.

    Bioluminescence visibility fluctuates and depends on temperature, rainfall, cold fronts and moon phase; visibility is typically lower November–March and very low to none on full moon nights. Weather forecasts (50%+ chance of storms or winds over 15 knots) may result in cancellations. The tour focuses on seven ecosystems, flora, fauna, ecology, history and cultural aspects of the reserve. Operators practice leave-no-trace procedures.

  • Itinerary

    • Arrival and check-in at Las Croabas (arrive 15 minutes early recommended).
    • Group waivers, insect repellent, kayak 101 safety briefing, lifejacket fittings and safety lights (approx. 45 minutes).
    • Shore-to-shore guided kayak tour in water (approx. 2 hours).
    • Return to shore for snacks, cold water and closing comments (approx. 15 minutes).

    Fajardo and Laguna Grande is about an hour away from San Juan by car. If you don’t have a car, be sure to book the tour that includes transportation.
